Why oppose the rezoning?

REZONING DEFEATED:  10/20/14

  • Increase truck traffic on Kirk Rd, causing more delays and safety issues
  • Change the flavor/character of the east side of Batavia to an industrial area, rather than a "neighborhood", diminishing Batavia's east side as an attractive place to reside.

OPPOSING THE REZONING OF THE 55 ACRE LOT AT KIRK RD. & WIND ENERGY PASS, BATAVIA, IL

Batavia City Hall announced that they are closing the petition from Missner Group.  This means that the application for rezoning that Missner Group  filed with Batavia City Hall in March, 2014 is no longer active.  If Missner Group wants to rezone, they will have to apply to Batavia City Hall again, as if they never did so in March, 2014.

For those Batavia and Aurora residents who signed petitions, wrote opposition emails, put up yard signs and attended City Hall meetings, thank you!  Your actions made a significant difference in defeating this rezoning.

Keep Batavia Neighborhoods lives on and will now focus on making sure City Hall will not make the same mistakes again if and when issues like this come up in the future.

Please help  defray the costs of the expenses that we incurred during the opposition.  Any amount, large or small, would be greatly appreciated.   Find out more

Update

                          10/20/14

Keep Batavia Neighborhoods was formed as a citizens watchdog group to oppose the rezoning of 55 acres at the SE corner of Kirk Rd. and Wind Energy Pass in Batavia, IL  Citizens were successful in this opposition, and in October, 2014, the rezoning was defeated.

Keep Batavia Neighborhoods uncovered many flaws in the process that Batavia City Hall used for this rezoning process, and now  this group is working diligently with Batavia City Hall to protect the citizens of Batavia  from future potentially disastrous outcomes because of these flaws.

We call this a problem with "Accountability" in Batavia City Hall.

For more information, sign up for Email updates below and we will email you a document that details the flaws we spoke to City Council about  in February, 2015.
